Methyl Ethyl Ketone (or MEK) is used as a solvent for protective coating in cellulose manufacturing, acrylic resin, and vinyl polymer production. It's also used in dewaxing lubrication oils, production of magnetic tapes, and pharmaceutical and cosmetics production.
